I experimented with changing my rowing cadence so that I'd pull faster than returning, and synced my breathing to that such that I was inhaling faster than exhaling. In the workout log, there's conspicuous dip where my bpm variance and average both dropped. The exercise intensity remained constant before and during said experiment.
