First impressions of #pubky vs #nostr mobile experience: pubkey is better than nostr desktop experience: nostr is better than pubky key management: nostr nsec is easier than 12 word seeds on boarding: pubky feels new and glitchy, but they are fixing things, nostr is more polished, glitches take longer to fix Still only day 1, but imho a great new addition to the open web. Cant wait to see how it evolves and for the public launch.

I worked so freaking hard to get rid of this 12 words awful UX, please don't tell me you don't know about the recovery file!

Embarassed to say I already lost my account once! they kindly gave me a new one. I have the file, but dont know what's in it yet. nsec is a whole lot easier.

What is in it is what is in all recovery files, and encrypted secret key. Also, there's a whole mobile app to sign into things with QR codes.

Cool, I'd like to build a convertor. Bonus: convert it to an nsec too. Then all #pubky users will get all of nostr features for free.

As far as I remember the JS client had a method or function to decrypt recovery files, if not it should be easily exposed. I however strongly discourage treating the root key this way, as it risks losing it, but it is your key and you are free to risk it.

Well that's why I proposed subkeys. My main work now is with agents, who are much better at key managment (I hope!)

Just create an npub, put it in Pkarr or the homeserver and do whatever you want... using the root secret key will only result in losing it, and encouraging people to do that will only result in bad reputation for Pkarr and keys in general
