The Paraense Gold Museum announced the temporary closure of the Zoobotanical Park in Pará, Brazil, after the death of a Pauxi tuberosa bird, also known as a hoatzin, due to respiratory complications. Local health authorities are working on the hypothesis of an avian influenza infection. According to the museum's statement, the park's veterinary team found an adult bird with respiratory difficulties during a clinical examination, which unfortunately resulted in the bird's death. The case was reported to the Pará State Agrodefense Agency, which collected biological material for analysis. In cases of suspected disease, the Ministry of Agriculture's biosafety protocol requires the site to be closed until laboratory test results are released, which is expected to take 72 hours. The museum's statement said that the park's reopening or the implementation of new sanitary measures will depend on the evaluation of the test results. The bird was an old resident of the park.
