If normies don’t understand bitcoin in the first place, then there’s no reason to keep the “sat” terminology. We’re free to change it without confusing them.

It will confuse the entire infrastructure because a bitcoin will refer to two different representations of value. This will not have consensus.

From a code perspective, consensus is already without the decimal points. I don’t care if we call them bitcoins or sats but 8 decimal points sucks.

I dont disagree but how many people are coming to bitcoin from a code perspective and can understand this rationale? Very few and those who are, likely are already bitcoiners. Adoption requires consistency. Changing terminology on a fundamental level 16 years later just so laymen language better m
