Mainstream platforms have gotten to the point where they are completely unusable for anyone who cares about privacy. Try making a YouTube, Github, Gitlab, or Gmail account. You are required to give a phone number. Gitlab even required that I provide a credit card. I find this very disturbing. The open source community is cutting off it's talent pool by using Github or Gitlab. I don't think people realize just how significant of a loss this is. Congratulations Google. You stopped the spammers. But you also made it near impossible for many of the world's best developers to contribute their talents. #privacy #Github #Gitlab #google #gmail
