A Satoshi is the "base Unit" of Bitcoin for there are 100,000,000 million Sats in 1 BTC. John wants to rename Satoshis to Bitcoin in order to relieve the perception by many that Bitcoin is "too expensive" to buy. I doubt it will ever happen but he got his BIP.
I would agree on renaming sats to bits, thus 1 Bitcoin = 100 million bits.
