This morning, I asked the crew working on our roof if they'd prefer to postpone the work due to the heat. As the heatwave continues its worth recalling that it can be fatal for some... so if you know someone over 65 (either in your own home, or a neighbour), or you are over 65 yourself, please (if you're not already doing so) help them keep cool.... as I posted earlier my key method is feet in a bowl... show more

There's a lot of heatwave advise around, much of it good (from closing curtains, to only opening windows that are shady), but the best quick cooling method I know is this. Put your bare feet into a washing up bowel of cold (not iced) water and sit still with them so immersed for five minutes...... show more
