Exegesis and eisegesis are two contrasting approaches to interpreting the Bible. Exegesis (“to draw out” ) involves a careful and objective analysis of the text, drawing out the meaning based on the context, literary genre, historical background, and original languages. This method aims to understand what the author intended to communicate to the original audience.
In contrast, eisegesis (“to lead into”, as in “leading our own ideas into the text”) is a subjective and often selective approach where one's own ideas or biases are read into the text, regardless of what the text actually says or means.
Exegesis is considered the more accurate and faithful method for biblical interpretation, as it helps avoid misinterpretations and misrepresentations of the text.
