First attempt at bagels. Shaping needs work, but otherwise successful. These are half AP flour and half bolted whole wheat. Poppy seed from my garden. #bagels #bread #baking

Potted figs are pruned and headed to the basement for the next few months. It’s about to get extremely cold. I’ll store cuttings and offer them (free) at plant swaps in the spring. #fig #gardening

Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin In a normal year, the lake would have a layer of solid ice at least a foot thick. This is not a normal year. There are areas of open water out there. The ice fishing festivals that usually attract thousands of people have been canceled due to poor ice conditions. #ClimateDiary

Salty Ox One of my favs, from 2018 "Amy Goodman attempted to question Wells Griffith about the Trump administration’s climate policy at the U.N. [COP] summit Tuesday. Griffith refused to answer questions and ran from our camera team for about a quarter-mile, retreating to the U.S. delegation office."

Fruit is really coming in now: peaches, figs, blackberries, tomatoes, ground cherries... Soon we'll have apples and pears. This is the best time of year. #fruit #gardening

Pulled up our annual garlic supply today. This will go into the garage to dry for several weeks, then I'll trim off the crispy tops and roots. About 4 lb will go back into the ground in Oct. Variety is Georgian Crystal. I replaced the garlic plants with beet seeds. #garlic #harvest #GrowYourOwn

We had our third seed swap yesterday. A cold and gray day, but 40 people came! We saw old friends and met new people of all ages. We handed out lots of free seed, much of it locally grown / adapted. Seed swaps are a great way to build community. You should organize one. (Pics from our fall see#SeedSwap #SeedSaving #gardening
